Zar (Arun Dhanjal) truly embodies eclecticism: he is a DJ & producer of melodic, ponderful electronic music influenced by UK garage, techno, deep house & hip hop. He is also a drummer, notably for hindustani classical/psychedelic rock band Karma Sheen.

Named as a Pirate Studios Resident for 2024, recipient of the Rhythm Section Future Proof Mentorship Scheme and core member of South Asian arts collective DAYTIMERS, the London based artist explores themes of introspection and transcendence in his music and DJ sets. He has received consistent support from DJ Mag, naming Zar as an “emerging artist you need to hear”, “part of an emerging wave of club producers with a flair for melodic heft” and “an exciting prospect in the sphere in electronic composition”. His music has been played on NTS, Rinse FM, Radio 6, BBC Asian Network and more, with support from Hagop Tchaparian, Raji Rags, SUCHI, NAINA, Jamz Supernova, Mafalda, Nabihah Iqbal and more.

Zar made his debut at Warehouse Project Manchester in November 2023 playing alongside Four Tet, Skrillex, Ben UFO and more. He has supported Nabihah Iqbal, and debuted at Wide Awake Festival 2024. Zar also debuted his solo live show in 2023. His monthly show on Voices Radio and DJ sets are “explorative, joining the dots between starry psyched-out sonics and dance floor beats” [DJ Mag].
