Rob Chung aka Chug, is a Drum & Bass producer, and has been involved in music for the past 25 years. Rob is currently based in South-East London, but started his musical journey in his hometown of Norwich. Initially DJing Hip-Hop, it wasn’t till after the launch of local pirate station Flight FM (home to Bladerunner and T>I) in 1999 where he was exposed to the underground sounds of Jungle / Drum & Bass and UK Garage, and subsequently started playing on the local UKG scene.
As a punter his first memorable raves were Reprazent at the Waterfront in 1997 and Urban Takeover and Moving Shadow tour nights at the UEA LCR in 1999. Influenced by the Soul, Funk and Jazz breakbeats and samples that defined 90’s Boom-Bap, Chug started producing in 2010 and has since released on labels such as Heist’s Liquid Lab, Soul Deep, Tru-Thoughts, Smooth N Groove and Inform Records.
Rob is currently working on a number of collaborations as well as branching out into UK Garage. Rob is also a core member of the ESEA Music community, helping run the Sesame Mentorship scheme, assisting young people from East and South-East Asian backgrounds with navigating the music industry. Rob's day job is a Product Manager in Data and Analytics at the distributor, FUGA, part of the Downtown Music group.
